All Suggestions Gratefully Accepted

I'm thinking about touring, if not with the current AN UNINVITED GHOST, then probably with OLD HAUNTS, which debuts next February. But the travel budget is, let's say, limited, so the "tour" would have to be carefully planned and kept to a small number of stores which are especially open to mystery authors and excellent at planning events.

So I'm asking you--yes, you--for suggestions. I have a few ideas of stores I've always wanted to visit (and I haven't contacted them yet, so I'm not mentioning any names), but maybe I don't know about all the best ones around the country (international travel is absolutely outside the budgetary limits).

Tell me--what are the great mystery bookstores in your area? Have you been to any memorable author events there? What stores an I not thinking of that I should be? You can list suggestions below or get in touch at ejcopperman [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks!

  1. Red Fox Books in Glens Falls, NY. Great store, lots of loyal customers, and they're wired w/ the Crandall Library, so if you double or triple up and make it a multi-author event, they've got lots of room. Also in the area: Battenkill Books in Cambridge, NY and the Clifton Park-Half Moon Library in Clifton park, NY. Well-attended events with books by Borders.

  2. Have you looked into Eagle Eye Bookshop in Decatur, GA (just outside ATL)? It does at least two book signings every weekend. It's a funky little shop that carries new and used books. They aren't specifically mystery though, they carry a little bit of everything. They're really good at promoting their author signings through their e-mails and website. I discovered them after we moved down here and I love going there!

  3. Left Coast Crime in Sacramento. Sure, it's far from NJ, but talk about bang for your buck -- you'd be able to reach four or five hundred die-hard mystery fans in one place. Even the most successful bookstore event would only attract a few dozen. Oh, and you could campaign for the Lefty. These are people who love funny mysteries -- your target audience!

  6. All lovely suggestions; thank you! But I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make it Sacramento (I've been to LCC before, and will undoubtedly be compelled to return when it's in Colorado Springs, as my spouse has family there. But all suggestions will be taken under consideration, believe me! If there's a tour--and that's a big IF--I'll keep you very informed!

  7. I think you should come here to Kauai. There's one bookstore on-island called Talk Story. It's the western-most bookstore in the USA.
