Be honest, now...

A preliminary (okay, VERY preliminary) look at the cover of AN UNINVITED GHOST, with no guarantees it won't be changed. Opinions?

  1. I don't like to "see" the ghost. Also, is there a black cat in the book? Because a lot of times I think publishers like to put cats on the covers of mystery novels just because they think mystery readers like cats. Really, though, get rid of the ghost and perhaps show a little bit more of the house. I like the birds being carried over from the first cover.

  2. I love the cover as it appears right now. I can't wait to get a copy of the book too.

  3. The image of the ghost is captivating; I find myself already engaged in the story without reading a word. I can very easily see Melissa loving that black cat (who is identical to my Miss Sarah, and I don't recall her modeling for that cover). I love seeing the house, though I thought the ocean was in front of the house, across the road, with a deep garden behind. I too like the black birds.

This is going to be a long wait.

  4. I like it. But I hope there's a cat in it since there is one on the cover.

  5. The cover is good, but I like the idea of seeing a hint of a ghost.

  6. I love the ghost trudging up the path. Immediately starts me wondering who he is and why he's there. I like the house with the birds watching from the wires instead of flying about. I don't like the black cat. I don't remember reading about a cat in the first book, so I'm guessing he plays an important role in the second book? Personally, I'd rather see guests posing for a picture or Allison or Melissa in front of the house instead of the cat.

  7. I like it! I do like seeing the ghost on the cover, and being a cat-lover, I like the cat, IF the cat is an important part if the story. Since it's so "front-and-center" it should have a role in the mystery.

  8. Hey, it looks like my cat Chester! You can borrow his name if you want to add him to the book.

  9. I do not like cats. The eyes freak me out. I would probably have to cover the book as I read it. But, I would still read it. Also, I don't seem to remember a cat in this book.

  10. Here's the thing. There's no cat in the book. At least, not yet. But please keep in mind that authors have NO influence over the cover at all.

  11. i do love the cat on the cover, but if there's no cat in the story, then they really should omit it. though, i do agree that more of the house needs to be shown. the house is the main part of the story and we want to see the renovations taking shape while she works on the house. i do like the ghost, but i agree with whoever said that they like to see a hint of a ghost, not the ghost full on. am i making sense? i'll be very interested to see what cover they plan to use exactly. is this one set in stone or is it a test cover?

  13. So what if there's not cat in the book. I don't think there were birds in the other book but there were birds on the cover. I'm really just jealous of all these people who KNOW there are no cats in the book. Keep the cat in the bag people! I don't wanna know half the world has read the book before me! Ok, so I'm really not as angry as that sounds, but I would love to talk my way into an advance copy...
